Tomorrow,1/27/2007,starts Catholic Schools week in the Diocese of Scranton. I would urge anyone who has school age children who are entering school next year or are unhappy with their current school to check out the Catholic schools in their area. As a parent, I can tell you, any sacrifice is worth the education that the kids are getting in Catholic schools. Last year 98% of Catholic HS grads went on to college. The grades on national tests were at or above the national average in all grades and the teachers involved in Catholic education truly do it, in my opinion, for the love of teaching, not money. Our Diocese only spends 70% of the budget on pay and benefits for teachers, that’s 30% that is available for education. The cost is a sacrifice, still extremely reasonable, but the sacrifice is an investment in the future!
